In the Semifinals of the Strikeforce World Grand Prix, the charming and cerebral Josh Barnett ousted Russian striker Sergei Kharitonov. And U.S. Olympic wrestler turned devastating puncher Daniel Cormier felled the giant, Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, by 1st Round knockout.
Now, Barnett and Cormier—age and experience vs. youth and speed—are on a collision course for the tournament Final.
Earlier in the night in a thrilling middleweight championship fight, Luke Rockhold out lasted defending champion Jacare Souza. The fight turned out to be as thrilling as a 5-round decision can be. The game combatants showed versatile striking, an incredible ability to take shots, and brilliant takedowns and takedown defense. Rockhold won his first world title by scores of 50-45 and 48-47 twice.
In a light heavyweight match, King Mo dropped Roger Gracie with a monsterous
overhand right in the 1st Round. Mo bested the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu prodigy before Gracie could get the fight to the mat.
In the first fight on the telecast, Pat "Bam Bam" Healy defeated feisty Venezuelan Maximo Blanco by rear naked choke in Round 2. Blanco controlled the stand up in the first round with a whirlwind of strikes from all angles. And in the second, Healy scored three takedowns and finally sunk in the finishing choke from side position.
