Mikkel Kessler

Bio

Mikkel Kessler has been fighting professionally since 1998. He is considered one of the most talented super middleweights today and is the early favorite to win the inaugural Super Six World Boxing Classic.

The "Viking Warrior" began his vocation early, training in boxing gyms at the tender age of 10. Within three years he was fighting amateur bouts. Kessler boasts an amateur record of 44 wins, just three losses. He has won the Danish Championship five times in addition to the Norwegian Championship and the Scandinavian Championship.

Kessler found similar success as a pro, winning both the WBC and the WBA Super Middleweight World Titles.

Because of a lack of American television exposure, Kessler may not be well known as he enters the Super Six tournament. But he is a huge draw amongst the ravenous boxing fans of Denmark and Germany. He is routinely featured on the sports pages of Denmark's most popular newspapers and magazines and he sells out 12,000+ seat arenas each time he fights.

Kessler currently resides in Monaco, but trains out of Berlin and Copenhagen with his coach Richard Olsen and Thomas Macon (pr. Ma - CONE)

In His Own Words

"I never thought this would happen but when I got the call I said, of course, I want to be part of it. I've got a lot of excitement in my stomach and I'm ready to fight... The Super Six is a dream come true and I think I can speak for all of us on that. This is a big opportunity for me and all the fighters... May the best fighter win."

What's In it for Kessler

Kessler isn't going to secure an opportunity to avenge his defeat to Calzaghe, who is retired. But if he wins the Super Six, he'll not only cement his status as the world's best super middleweight, but also lay claim to a place among the all-time best at 168 pounds.
